Walt Disney World: how to plan your first visit
Four theme parks and plenty of choices. Plan your days, tickets, accommodation and priorities for your first Walt Disney World trip.

Your first Walt Disney World trip starts with deciding what you are most excited about. A character encounter, a particular ride or an unhurried afternoon can shape the whole visit. Make a short priority list before comparing hotels, rather than trying to fit in everything.
Get to know the four theme parks
Walt Disney World in Florida has four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. These are separate parks with their own entrances and experiences. Find out which park contains your must-do attractions and shows before assigning your days.
Magic Kingdom is home to Cinderella Castle. EPCOT brings together discovery and country pavilions; Hollywood Studios explores movie worlds; Animal Kingdom combines nature, animals and adventures. Use this as a starting point, then choose the balance that suits your group.
Count your actual available days
Hotel nights are not the same as full days in the parks. Arrival, departure and transfers take time too. Start with the parks you want to visit and leave room for breaks or a return visit. There is no single ideal trip length for every family.
Compare the whole trip cost
Include flights, accommodation, tickets, transport, meals and extras in your budget. When comparing a Disney hotel with other accommodation, consider location and your journey to each park. A cheaper room does not automatically mean a cheaper trip or easier transfers.
Match your tickets to your plans
Check the number of days, validity dates and whether your ticket allows more than one park per day. Date-based tickets currently do not require an additional theme park reservation; other admission types may require one. Read the official conditions for your specific ticket before buying.
Plan the essentials and leave some gaps
Decide which meals, character encounters or experiences would shape your day before building a detailed itinerary. Choose a few priorities per park and check availability through official channels. Allow time for walking and breaks so your schedule can adapt when plans change.
Make a short pre-trip checklist
Keep your hotel and ticket confirmations handy, check current opening hours and review your transport arrangements. Share your priorities and alternatives with your group. A good first plan gives you a clear place to start without turning every last-minute change into a problem.
